
Republican "moderates" like Scott Brown joined Tea Party in voting against immigrant youth.
The attempt to include the DREAM Act in the Defense authorization bill went down to defeat today when every Republican voted against the law giving a path to legalization to young immigrants.
“Moderate” Republicans, many of whom have supported the DREAM Act in the past, voted unanimously against the DREAM Act. These included Senators McCain, Graham, Snow, Hatch, and Brown.
Sixty votes were needed for passage. The bill garnered a clear majority, 56 votes, but fell 4 short of passage. Two Democrats joined the Republicans in blocking the DREAM Act.
Both New York Senators voted for the DREAM Act.
