Arizona and Michigan Primaries Point to More GOP Woes

February 28, 2012
By

Although 30% of Arizonans are Latinos, only 8% of the voters in today’s Republican primary are. The steady erosion of Latino support for the Republican Party has been a major political trend in Arizona since Gov. Jan Brewer launched her assault on immigrants three years ago.

Exit polling in The State That Hates showed that even in Arizona, most Republicans reject the deport-them-all immigration policy of the Republican Party. Here is the response to the night’s immigration question:

Should most illegal immigrants working in the United States be:
Offered a chance to apply for citizenship 34%
Allowed to stay as temporary workers 28%
Deported  34%

In Michigan, only 3 percent of Republican primary voters said that immigration is the most issue to them.
