Report Card
The Nineteenth Congressional District ranges over much of the middle Hudson Valley. It includes parts of northern Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Dutchess, and Putnam counties.
The District is closely divided in party enrollment, with Republicans holding a slight lead over Democrats. It is one of the few true swing districts in the state.
Nan Hayworth defeated incumbent Representative John Hall in November, 2010. She has no voting record on immigration, but during her campaign she said she would favor a legalization program for undocumented immigrants after the borders are secured. Her “registration” program would require the undocumented to pay a penalty and back taxes, and would include a pathway to citizenship. She also indicated that she might support an amended version of the DREAM Act.
Hayworth set off concern during the campaign when her office issued a press release in which a prominent anti-immigrant activist endorsed her. The release included a statement of support for SB-1070 , Arizona’s anti-immigrant law by the activist. Hayworth herself has not endorsed the Arizona law,
