NY-29 Tom Reed (Rep.)

Report Card

The 29th Congressional District is set in the Southern Tier and western Finger Lakes regions of New York. The district’s population lives primarily in rural areas and in villages and small cities like Elmira and Corning. The 29th is traditionally Republican, but it has a substantial Democratic base as well. The district has few immigrant voters, but its farming sector is dependent on migrant immigrant labor.

The district’s Congressional seat was vacant going into the 2010 election because of a personal scandal involving Democratic Representative Eric Massa. Republican Tom Reed won an 8% victory, helped by a national Republican surge. Reed is the former mayor of Corning. He has no record on immigration issues.
